What is USY?

United Synagogue Youth (USY) is our synagogue’s youth group. If you are in 9th grade to 12th grade, we invite you to join and socialize with other people your age!

Some of the activities our members participate in include:

  • Fun events such as an annual pool party, bowling, laser tag, biking, and ice-skating.
  • Activities to celebrate the Jewish holidays such as a Purim party, Hanukah party, and dinner under a sukkah.
  • Participating in Temple Beth Sholom’s Friday night and Saturday morning Shabbat services.
  • Social action and community service programs such as visiting nursing homes and babysitting.

Regional and National Affiliation

Temple Beth Sholom’s USY group is affiliated with the Department of Youth Activities of the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism. We are a part of the Hanefesh region, which includes Connecticut and Western Massachusetts. It is under the leadership of Marcus Fink. There are many regional programs to participate in throughout the year, such as conventions, dances, and week-long encampments.

USY Programs

USY offers many opportunities to meet other Jewish teenagers outside your local chapter with their numerous programs. Whether it’s a summer program, a school-year program or a yearlong program, you can be sure it will be a great experience! Visit www.usy.org for details.

Kadima

Kadima, which literally translates to “forward” in Hebrew, is the youth group for Jewish preteens in 6th grade to 8th grade. It is the middle school equivalent of USY. Once you are too old for Kadima, consider joining USY!
