March 2019 Ongoing Programs

 

  • New Reach (Formerly New Haven Home Recovery): Items to donate include: Warm gloves as well as new socks and underwear for women and children from babies to 13 yrs old. NEW bedding only; pillows, bedspreads, sheets, towels. Also needed are diapers, wipes, bottles and toiletries unused and sealed. Please don’t drop off used toiletries or bedding. Donation for furniture :   At this time New Reach is accepting small kitchen tables and chairs, dressers and beds. No sofas at this time. It is basically a one man show with a few volunteers and space is very limited. It can take up to a few weeks for a pick up so please put in your request accordingly.   • Tower One/Tower East: There are many ways to be involved. Volunteers are always needed for the senior residents. Some current programs: making plastic sleeping mats for the homeless and a Music Appreciation Program for residents based on their interest.   • L.Keefe Center: School children in our area continue to need school supplies (notebooks, backpacks, crayons, pencils, etc.). Please no binders or loose leaf notebooks! We are looking for new or very slightly used items. Donations can be placed in the School Supplies bin, or donate to the Diane Kaplan Social Action Fund and we will buy the supplies needed.   • Fresh Fruit Program: Sign up to deliver 24 pieces of fresh fruit to local women’s and children’s shelters. Each month a volunteer brings the fruit. We are currently recruiting volunteers for next year. For those currently signed up to deliver, please bring fresh fruit to their headquarters at 153 East St., New Haven.   • Toiletry Collection for Homeless: We continue to collect toiletries for many agencies. The basket has been filling with your generous donations each week. We still can use small containers of shampoo, lotions, toothpaste, toothbrushes, etc. Please donate only new or unused toiletries.
  • Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen:
  • TBS is signed up to work the Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen the fourth Sunday of each month. Volunteers are needed on the following dates: 2/24/19, 3/24/19, 4/28/19, 5/26, 6/23.   • Collecting Pop Tabs for Ronald Mc Donald House: Pop tabs are found on soda cans, pet food and soup cans. They are the non-magnetic, aluminum tabs that can be removed and collected for Ronald McDonald House Charities of CT. The program supports the families of ill children in local hospitals with temporary housing. Please bring your tabs to temple and place in the jar in the kitchen. Place donations in the hallway bins if you are able….if not, make a donation to the Diane Kaplan Social Action Fund. We will do the shopping for you!
