June 2015: From TBS President Sy Kaplan
Dear members:
This year Memorial Day fell on the second day of Shavuot, a day we say Yiskor.
A day to remember those who have served and sacrificed for our country in the highest way and to remember our family and friends who have passed on.
At our Memorial Day service held in the front of our shul at the newly renovated flag pole (thanks to Les Faiman for a spectacular job), was a gathering of past veterans, family and friends and the boy scouts who raised the flag and the playing of taps. As the names of our veterans were read, I got the feeling of sadness and pride.
For me it was not only a day to remember those who are gone, but it was a day to take a look at what have I done in my lifetime, my legacy.
I try to do the right things; the basics are to provide for my family and to make sure I gave them a solid path to the future.
As for my years at TBS, 49 and counting, I try to do the right thing. We are also a family and as I think back to the early years, the struggles and the simchas, I am also proud to be a member of TBS.
Have a great summer, and I will see you in shul
Sy Kaplan
